Development of a non-triangular separation region for improving the performance of a three-zone simulated moving bed chromatography for binary separation with linear isotherms

► A new separation region was developed for a three-zone SMB chromatographic process. ► The new separation region was created in the third quadrant (m2, m3) plane. ► It was compared with the previous triangular region in the first quadrant plane. ► The new region could surpass the previous triangular region in terms of purities. ► The new region could surpass the previous triangular region in terms of throughput.
