Operating parameters and observation modes for individual droplet analysis by inductively coupled plasma‐atomic emission spectrometry

► Operating parameters for single-droplet analysis by ICP‐AES were optimized. ► Lateral observation mode is preferred over vertical observation mode. ► Observation region should be 3 mm downstream of atomization site for best precision. ► A new synchronization trigger method based on Hα emission was developed.
