Structure and spectroscopic studies of cis-bis(bipyridine) ruthenium(II) complexes of phenylcyanamide ligands

Two new ruthenium complexes, cis-[Ru(bpy)2 (L)2], where bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine and L = mono anion of phenylcyanamide derivatives (4-iodophenylcyanamide and 4-(3-hydroxy-3-methylbut-1-ynil)phenylcyanamide), have been prepared and characterized by spectroscopies, electrochemical technique and X-ray structure. A cis conformation for the phenylcyanamides ligands in [Ru(bpy)2(Ipcyd)2] has been clearly found from the X-ray structure.
