Electronic structure of 2,5-dimethylazaferrocene

► We present the “missing link” in the electronic structure analysis between ferrocene and diazaferrocenes. ► We also show the extent of intramolecular metal-ligand interactions in azaferrocenes. ► We compare th UV-Vis spectrum of azaferrocene radical-cation with its photoelectron spectrum.
