Competitive activation of C-H and C-F bonds in gas phase reaction of Ir+ with CH3F: A DFT study

► Competitive activation of C-H and C-F bonds have been discussed. ► H2-elimination is energetically much more favorable than HF-elimination. ► The computed SOC are strong for the MECP. ► The spin inversion will make the reaction accessible to a lower energy pathway.
