The structures of pentanoyl chloride, CH3(CH2)3COCl, contained in supersonic expansions of argon gas

► We have performed the first structural study of pentanoyl chloride. ► Two conformers have been characterized using chirped pulse Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. ► Comparison with other acyl chlorides shows a common 35Cl nuclear electric quadrupole coupling tensor.
