The role of ligand coordination on the spectral features of Yb3+ ions in lead aluminum silicate glasses

► Lead aluminum silicate glasses doped with Yb3+ ions are synthesized and OA and PL are investigated. ► The results are analyzed in the light of varying concentration of Al2O3. ► Analysis indicated decreasing radiative trapping and increasing τ of Yb3+ ions with Al2O3 content.
