The method of acceptor catalytic polyetherification has been used to prepare polyarylates based on polysubstituted bisphenols. The crystallizability of the polyarylates has been determined both under polycondensations and in the case of secondary treatment. It has been found that polar substituents (Cl) in a bisphenol macromolecule, as compared with low polar substituents (CH3), have a favourable effect on the crystallizability of polyarylates. In the case of polar substituents the symmetry of their positioning has a marked effect on the crystallizability of the polymers. Aceptor catalytic polyetherification carried out in a heterogeneous system, when low molecular polymers separate out of solution at the very outset of the reaction, is conducive to a higher degree of crystallinity of the polyarylates.
