The ESR study of products of the heat treatment of ladder polyenes

ESR and infrared spectroscopy have been used to show that the heat treatment of polymers based on vinylacetylene monomers in a vacuum at 100–300°C gives rise to highly aromatized fragments (the nuclei of graphitoid structures). A mechanism is suggested for the low temperature conversion of ladder-like polyvinylacetylenes.
