High permeability of ultrafiltration membranes based on electrospun PVDF modified by nanosized zeolite hybrid membrane scaffolds under low pressure
چکیده انگلیسی

• Nanosized zeolite/PVDF ultrafiltration membranes were fabricated by an electrospinning process.
• The addition of zeolite nanoparticles could effectively improve the mechanical properties of the UF scaffold.
• The water permeability and porosity of the zeolite/PVDF UF scaffolds could be improved by a thin coating of chitosan.

High permeability and antifouling property under low pressure are two essential properties for the commercial filtration membranes. In this work, a novel hybrid ultrafiltration (UF) scaffold with high permeability obtained by blending poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) with nanosized zeolite particles were fabricated by an electrospinning process. Addition of nanosized zeolite particles was effective to improve the mechanical properties of the zeolite/PVDF UF scaffold. Chitosan thin films were chosen to advance water flux performance and antifouling properties by promoting wetting property and increasing porosity of the zeolite/PVDF UF scaffolds under low pressure. These hybrid UF membranes have a high potential in water purification field.

A novel ultrafiltration (UF) scaffold with high permeability obtained by blending poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) with nanosized zeolite particles were fabricated by an electrospinning process. The addition of nanosized zeolite particles could effectively improve the mechanical properties of the UF scaffold and the optimal concentration is 3 wt% of the PVDF. The water permeability and antifouling property of the zeolite/PVDF UF scaffolds under low pressure could be effectively improved by a thin coating of polymeric chitosan in changing the wetting property and the porosity of the substrate. These novel nanosized zeolite particles modified UF membranes have potentially application in the water filtration field.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slide
