Spectroscopic properties of Sm-containing yttrium-aluminoborate glasses and analogous huntite-like polycrystals

► Microparameters of the Sm-Sm interaction in aluminoborate glass were determined. ► The minimum possible distance between Sm3+ ions in the glasses is about 0.67 nm. ► At low Sm content luminescence efficiency in the glass is higher than in crystal.
