A facile route for the preparation of a new nanohybrid comprising of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and Au-coated Fe nanoparticles (Fe@Au NPs) has been developed. The Fe@Au NPs anchored with MWNTs (Fe@Au/MWNTs) were initially prepared by the interaction of azide-containing Fe@Au NPs and alkyne-functionalized MWCNTs via the Cu(I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction. The as-prepared Fe@Au/MWNTs nanohybrids were investigated by FT-IR, XPS, EDS, XRD, and TEM analyses. The covalent ligation between the segments in the nanohybrids was confirmed by FT-IR studies. The elemental mapping analyses as accomplished by XPS and EDS suggested the successful preparation of the Fe@Au/MWNTs nanohybrids. A SQUID study indicated that the nanohybrids having ferromagnetic character which was susceptible to a rapid separation of colloidal magnetic materials under an external-magnetic field.
