A small specimen test technique was employed to evaluate the mechanical properties of a set of hot-rolled AZ31 magnesium alloy at room temperature. The effect of equivalent rolling strain and temperature on the room temperature mechanical behavior of experimental alloy was studied using the shear punch testing (SPT) method. To verify the latter the standard uniaxial tension tests were also carried out. The results indicated that the room temperature strength and ductility of rolled AZ31 alloy is increased by decreasing the rolling temperature and increasing the equivalent rolling strain. In addition, the current work explores the existence of a linear relationship between shear punch test data and the universal tensile strength and elongation.
