Glass forming ability (GFA) and structural characterization of amorphous Al–Ni–Sr alloy melt spun were investigated as a function of solute contents. The GFA was found to vary with the ratio of Ni to Sr. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HREM) suggested that Al–Ni5–Sr3 which showed the highest glass forming ability in the experimental conditions consisted of 2–5 nm precipitates embedded in the amorphous matrix. Thermal stability and devitrification behavior of amorphous phases were investigated using the continuous and isothermal heating technique on DCS, resulting that the crystallization occurs by the growth of pre-existent fcc-Al nuclei.
