• Single crystal of tuAgN was synthesized at room temperature and the structure has been solved.
• The multiple shot Laser damage threshold value of tuAgN was found to be 13.06 GW/cm2.
• The tuAgN crystal could be used for any applications up to 435 K.
• Microhardness at different planes of tuAgN show anisotropy.
New poly bis(thiourea) silver(I) nitrate (tuAgN) has been synthesized at room temperature (27 °C) and single crystals were grown by the slow evaporation method. Crystal structure was solved and the lattice parameters were obtained. The crystal shows good optical transparency (70%) in the entire visible region with a lower cut off wavelength of 329 nm. The tuAgN crystal has high laser damage threshold value of 13.06 GW/cm2 with better birefringence results. The tuAgN crystal exhibits good thermal stability of about 165 °C. The Vickers microhardness measurements carried out on (1 0 0) and (0 1 0) planes of the grown crystal shows considerable anisotropy.
