• Sr2MgMoO6−δ/Gd0.1Ce0.9O1.95 composition was utilized as a SOFC anode-support.
• Thin film doped-ceria electrolyte was densified on porous Sr2MgMoO6−δ/Gd0.1Ce0.9O1.95 support.
• Enhanced electrochemical performance of all-ceramic supported SOFC.
• High-performance attained without incorporation of metal into anode microstructure.

An anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) was fabricated using a porous composite of Sr2MgMoO6−δ (SMM) and Gd0.1Ce0.9O2−δ (GDC) for the anode support. The electrolyte consisted of a 20 μm thick GDC layer, which was deposited by a combined screen-printing and sol–gel deposition processes. A porous (La0.6Sr0.4)0.98 (Co0.2Fe0.8)O3−δ (LSCF) composition was used as the active cathode. Voltage–current–power (V–I–P) tests were completed on the cells in wet H2, and the fuel cells displayed a maximum power density of 342 mW cm−2 and 572 mW cm−2 at 600 °C and 700 °C, respectively, without the use of any metal impregnate to enhance the electro-catalytic processes.
