Atomic engineering of platinum alloy surfaces

► Oxidation of a Pt-31  at% Pd alloy at 673-1073 K for 5 h was examined by atom probe tomography. ► Three different structures are observed near the surface of the alloy over this temperature range. ► The oxidation treatment suggests a route of tuning surfaces of Pt-Pd to be either Pt-rich or Pd-rich.
