Deuterium release from pores in tungsten created by 10 keV D3+ beam

A numerical model describing deuterium release from metal with pores in the near surface region has been developed and applied for the simulation of the thermal desorption spectra (TDS) of deuterium from tungsten irradiated by D+ ion beam. The experimental TDS peak related to desorption from pores has a maximum at about 630 K. By varying parameters of the model, a good agreement between simulation and experiments can be obtained. The factors determining the TDS peak position and shape are discussed. A high temperature tail on experimental TDS data is explained by the distribution of pores and trapped deuterium through the metal.
