Public concepts of CCS: Understanding of the Dutch general public and its reflection in the media

► Lay people's beliefs and knowledge of CCS, energy production and climate change were assessed. ► A media-log was kept of articles mentioning CCS in all major Dutch newspapers from 2009 to 2010. ► Interviews and survey show high energy analphabetism among general Dutch public. ► Several misconceptions among a large group of respondents influenced their attitude towards CCS. ► Newspapers provide little information correcting misperceptions or adding knowledge.
