Multiple techniques for mineral identification of terrestrial evaporites relevant to Mars exploration

► We investigated mound evaporite deposits in arid environments colonized by endolithic microorganisms. ► The use of a single technique cannot avoid some degree of uncertainty in the mineral identification. ► We used multiple mineralogical techniques to characterize a lithology suitable for microbial colonization in arid setting.
