► Mid-IR ethane emission lines by HIPWAC (R∼1E6) 3 weeks after 2009 Jupiter impact. ► Increased ethane abundance retrieved at the impact region (∼60%). ► Elevated continuum at impact region modeled with opacity around 45-60 mbar level. ► Reduced continuum <80° east of impact region modeled with opacity around tropopause. ► Stratospheric eastward zonal transport of ⩾21 m/s.
