The formation of small cones in Isidis Planitia, Mars through mobilization of pyroclastic surge deposits

► We investigate the distribution of cones in Isidis Planitia and their relationship to basin fill. ► We propose that the basin was inundated by pyroclastic flows. ► We favor cone formation by mobilization of volcaniclastic material due to degassing. ► The gas concentration required for cone formation is low.
