The Maria asteroid family: Genetic relationships and a plausible source of mesosiderites near the 3:1 Kirkwood Gap

► Mineralogical assessment of 12 Maria family asteroids was conducted. ► The Maria asteroid family appears to be a true genetic family. ► The Maria asteroid family is composed of assemblages analogous to mesosiderite meteorites. ► The Maria family is a plausible source of some or all of the mesosiderites. ► Asteroid ((695) Bella) was found to be unrelated to the genetic Maria family members. ► Parameters of Bella indicate an H-OC assemblage and may be a sister/daughter of Hebe.
