Lower stratospheric gravity wave activity over Gadanki (13.5°N, 79.2°E) during the stratospheric sudden warming of 2009: Link with potential vorticity intrusion near Indian sector

► Unlike long-term behavior, PV intrudes into west of Indian sector during the SSW 2009. ► Due to PV advection at upper levels, deep convection is induced east of PV downstream. ► The convection so induced by PV intrusion excites large GW activity near Indian sector. ► The GW propagation direction changes responding to the PV induced convective source.
