Association between total blood mercury and exhaled nitric oxide in US adults

► Exhaled nitric oxide (NO) is a biomarker of airway inflammation. ► Mercury is one of the most toxic elements affecting immune system in human. ► We found that blood mercury levels were significantly associated with exhaled NO. ► We highlight the importance of exhaled NO to assess environmental health risks.
