Study of sorption of metal oxoanions from waste water on surfactant modified analog of laumontite

The present study describes sorption of toxic metal oxoanions; CrO42−, MoO42− and WO42− on surfactant modified laumontite. The synthesis of laumontite was carried in presence of inorganic salts as a source of silicon and aluminum by hydrothermal method. The material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS or EDX), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and thermogravameteric analysis (TGA). The sorption experiments were carried under batch process using spectrophotometer for determination of metal oxoanion concentration. Effect of various parameters like pH, contact time between surfactant modified laumontite and metal oxoanions, amount of sorbent, metal oxoanion concentration and temperature on the sorption of metal ions was studied and the sorption was found to be dependent on these parameters. The optimum conditions for sorption of these metal ions on surfactant modified laumontite are 25 °C temperature, equilibration time of 7 h and neutral pH (pH ∼ 7).
