چکیده انگلیسی

• Conditioning parameters have a significant effect on subsequent flotation behaviour.
• Chemisorption is usual mechanism of adsorption of fatty acids on hematite.
• Physical and chemical conditions contribute to fatty acid adsorption on hematite.

On the basis of this literature review it is obvious that conditioning parameters have a significant effect on the final flotation behaviour of iron-containing oxide minerals, since this is the point where flotation collectors first come in contact with the mineral surfaces. Various mechanisms have been postulated as occurring as conditioning time is increased. Both physical (e.g. conditioning time and power input) and chemical (nature, dispersion and solubility of the adsorbing species) contribute to the mechanisms of attachment of collector. For oleic acid, conditioning at acid pH values involves the interaction of water-insoluble droplets or colloids with the mineral surface, whereas at alkaline pH conditions, soluble oleate ions are the adsorbing species. Selectivity against gangue minerals relies on the correct choice of conditioning parameters. This means that there are optimum physical and chemical parameters which ensure effective separation of minerals from gangue.
