A new class of antiemetic agents, neurokinin 1 antagonists has been recently studied. Aprepitant has been approved for prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting. A dose higher than 40 mg is no more effective. Aprepitant is more effective than odansetron for prevention of vomiting. Aprepitant is given orally, it has a long duration of action and it does not induce significant side effects. It can be administered in combination with setron.
