Sleep deprivation occurs commonly in patient hospitalized in intensive care units. Sleep is impaired, not only quantitatively but also qualitatively. Risk factors include noise, permanent lightning, patient's care, pain, treatments and weaning from different drugs. Disturbed sleep impacts patient's comfort and quality of life, but also morbidity and even mortality. Prevention is based on changing practice concerning risk factors. Management of sedation and ventilation according to current guidelines may participate to improvement in sleep quality.
