The present study examines wholegrain intake in France on the basis of a 7-day dietary survey in a representative sample of children, adolescents, and adults. Special care was employed to identify all wholegrain consumption. Over half of the respondents did not report any intake of wholegrain. In participants who did, consumption levels were very low (about 9.1Â g day in children, and 14.4Â g in adults). Main food sources of wholegrain were breakfast cereals and bread. Consumers of wholegrain had higher daily intakes of fibre and several vitamins and minerals than non-consumers. In adults but not in children, the odds ratio for overweight/obesity decreased significantly as the level of wholegrain consumption increased.
