► High ambient temperature during sauna session significantly affects the oxidant-antioxidant balance in humans. ► Catalase seems to be the most important antioxidant enzyme neutralizing the effects of thermal stress. ► Regular exposure to thermal stress seems to induce some adaptive changes in antioxidant system.
