Hipertensión arterial compleja

The term paraganglioma defines a series of tumors that grow from chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla (phaeochromocytoma) and the paraganglion sympathetic system. The most frequent site of the latter is intraabdominal, in the superior paraaortic area followed by the inferior paraaortic area from the kidney to the bifurcation of the aorta. The functioning phaeochromocytoma, a cathecolamine- secreting tumor, is a rare cause of arterial hypertension. However, it should be considered in all hypertensive subjects because if not recognized, a phaeochromocytoma may lead to fatal hypertensive crises during stress situations. It has been reported in a few cases in association with renal artery stenosis (RAS).We describe a case where both coexist as cause of arterial hypertension.
