Falls and their consequences constitute the most important challenge of geriatric health care. Among fall-related complications the most frequent are injuries, with the especially devastating hip fracture. Number of falls increases with age and with multiple risk factors. Prevention of falls involves identification of risk factors and their circumstances, thorough examination of cardiovascular and neurological system, clinical tests of gait and balance and early rehabilitation. This article provides an overview of the epidemiology of falls and common causes of risk factors. Recommendations of American Geriatric Society about approach to older people fall history have been shown.
