Las asociaciones de madres y padres y el derecho a la educación

With the present essay we intend to know the assessment made by parents' associations as regards the right to education, other people's rights, several issues about it and its practical accomplishment, We have proposed to those associations (of public and private schools alike) of the Principality of Asturias a questionnaire made ad hoc. The resulting info has been analyzed with descriptive testing. Non parametric tests have been to detect differencs in the results (Mann-Whitney test U). Eight out of ten families wish to be free to choose school. More than eight out of ten wish the infant stage (0-3 years) to be free. As paramount features of the right to education, they consider the basic teaching to be free and compulsory, as well as the freedom of choosing school. We have found differences in accordance to the ownership of the school. As a conclusion: good opinion of the education received by their children, althougt it can be improved, freedom to choose school, free University and Infant stage education, and paramount importance of education to be free and compulsory
