Within the current European Higher Education Area, the teaching model shifts the center of teaching and learning from the teacher to students. It is thus crucial to count on learners and pay close attention to their views, suggestions and comments as a way to ensure reathat the teaching-learning process is carried out effectively. In this regard, given that students play a crucial role in undergraduate education, the main goal of this paper is to know, through a survey-based research approach, students' opinions about such relevant issues as competences, methodology, evaluation, assessment and tutorship periods. With this in mind, we analyse the results obtained from a survey administered to first year students of Early Childhood and Primary Education Studies in the course unit “English and Teaching I” in the University of Castilla-La Mancha. It is my contention here that the data gathered from this survey can effectively contri bute to improve the teaching-learning process as a whole and, by doing so, facilitate a significant, autonomous and successful learning experience.
