Tomosíntesis mamaria: bases físicas, indicaciones y resultados

Sensitivity in the detection of breast cancer in dense breasts has been increased by the widespread use of digital mammography but is still low. Although ultrasound is a useful additional technique for dense breasts, its use is limited in population-based screening. Tomosynthesis has recently emerged as a technical development of digital mammography. This technique is able to perform breast reconstruction showing several slices (1 mm thickness), thus avoiding superimposed tissue and improving the detection and characterization of breast lesions. There are several solutions on the market, whose main difference consists of the scan angle of the tube. Numerous studies have validated tomosynthesis as a valuable adjunct to digital mammography, reducing the recall rate and increasing sensitivity.
