Mandibular distraction in infancy

Mandibular distraction has numerous clinical applications and continues to evolve to improve patient care. Distraction simultaneously expands the bone and soft tissue surrounding the mandible. It has also been shown to decrease the need for tracheostomy in neonates with severe bilateral mandibular hypoplasia. This article describes the authors' method for performing mandibular distraction.
