Characterization of embryonic cortical neuron death in prolonged cell suspension

► We asked whether the suspension time of dissociated neurons affects their viability. ► We examined the extent of apoptosis versus necrosis of neurons in suspension. ► While apoptosis was marginal, dissociated neurons underwent necrosis. ► Prevention against necrosis may be required for better survival of neurons in suspension.
