Differential accumulation of mercury and other trace metals in the food web components of a reservoir impacted by a chlor-alkali plant (Flix, Ebro River, Spain): Implications for biomonitoring

► We compare many food web components of a reservoir for trace metal bioaccumulation. ► Most organisms are suitable for Hg biomonitoring. ► Biofilms and zebra mussel showed more general biomonitoring capacity. ► Other organisms showed strengths for specific metals or environmental compartments. ► The use of a group of biomonitors increases the scope and strengths of conclusions.
