► The SIS along a continuum (SISc) model is a new epidemiological model. ► In SISc, nodes of any directed trade network can be infected along a continuum. ► The linear epidemiologic threshold of the SISc model is derived analytically. ► Epidemic threshold and correlation between links in/out are negatively related. ► Trade wholesalers are the key units to target to control disease spread.
