Oxidation of hydroxyacetone (acetol) with hydrogen peroxide in acetonitrile solution catalyzed by iron(III) chloride

Oxidation of acetol by homogeneous cheap and green catalytic system FeCl3/H2O2 gave acetic acid and formic acid as the main products.
