The impact of affinity on world economic integration: The case of Japanese foreign direct investment

► I examine the effect of psychological factors on FDI flows. ► In particular, I analyze the impact of Japanese affinity with foreign countries on Japanese FDI outflows. ► The higher Japan's affinity with a foreign country, the more likely its FDI is to flow to that country. ► Increases in affinity among countries may facilitate world economic integration.
