Impact of the equatorial coordination sphere on the rate of reduction, lipophilicity and cytotoxic activity of platinum(IV) complexes

Novel diamineplatinum(IV) complexes featuring axial carboxylato and equatorial halido or dicarboxylato ligands were synthesized and characterized. The ligand sphere had a significant influence on the lipophilicity and rate of reduction. Most cytotoxic platinum(IV) complexes showed IC50 values in the low micromolar and even nanomolar range.136
