Variability in modern sea surface temperature, sea ice and terrigenous input in the sub-polar North Pacific and Bering Sea: Reconstruction from biomarker data

► Different sources of organic matter in the Bering Sea and N Pacific were assigned. ► SST and sea ice cover were reconstructed using alkenone and IP25 proxies, respectively. ► The alkenone unsaturation index did not reflect mean annual SST throughout the study area. ► Different calibrations should be used to reconstruct SST in the area. ► IP25 compound found only in samples north of the maximum ice edge in the Bering Sea.
