Amino acid and amino sugar transformation during sedimentation in lacustrine systems

► Amino acids + amino sugars in sedimenting lacustrine organic matter (OM) studied. ► Plankton, sediment trap and sediment samples examined. ► Contribution of amino acids to OM decreased with progressive degradation. ► Amino sugars accumulated in sediment to a greater extent in the oligotrophic lake.
