Proto-solid bitumen in petroleum altered by thermochemical sulfate reduction

►TSR altered oils were analyzed by ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry (APPI-FTICR-MS). ► TSR altered oils contain high molecular weight polynuclear aromatic species with 0-2 S atoms. ► These compounds are the precursors to TSR-solid bitumens.
