The organic geochemistry of oil seeps from the Sierra de Perijá eastern foothills, Lake Maracaibo Basin, Venezuela

► Eleven oil seeps from the Carboniferous Region of Tulé (Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela) were studied. ► These hydrocarbon-rich fluids have undergone biodegradation (PM degrees 2 and 6 out of 10). ► These oil seeps were generated from the La Luna source rock, which reached the peak of the oil window. ► The oil seeps analyzed are the result of a mixture of two oils that resulted for two generation pulses. ► Evidence of light oil trapped in the Cachirí area should prompt re-exploration in shallow reservoirs.
