Identification of β-hydroxy fatty acid esters and primary, secondary-alkanediol esters in cuticular waxes of the moss Funaria hygrometrica

Two series of unknown cuticular wax compounds were identified from the moss Funaria hygrometrica. The leafy gametophyte and calyptra waxes contained β-hydroxy fatty acid esters (C40-C52), while the mature sporophyte capsule contained alkanediol esters (C40-C52).
