Elicitors of tansy volatiles from cotton leafworm larval oral secretion

The Spodoptera littoralis caterpillar feeds on tansy leaves which release a characteristic volatile blend. Four oligosaccharides were detected in the oral secretion of S. littoralis larvae. The application of these oligosaccharides to damaged tansy leaves induces the emission of a similar tansy volatile blend as the feeding of S. littoralis larvae.
