Sesquiterpenes from the roots of Illicium dunnianum

► Sixteen sesquiterpenes were isolated from the roots of Illicium dunnianum. ► Twelve sesquiterpenes assignable to three types were characterized. ► Six compounds possesses a rare oxatetracyclic ring system with a cagelike ketal structure. ► Two compounds exhibited significant potential anti-inflammatory activities.
